Our new Find? LoopyDoopy!

Every now and again we are inspired to try something new. Loopydoopy is my inspiration to try doing some work with polymer clay.  I came across this self taught artist's work, on flickr and then found a great interview of her on Win Crafty

Loopydoopy_5

Although she uses papermache to make her sculptor / dolls, its her work in polymer with buttons and marbles that brings me back to  the days of watching and wanting to be Wendsday from the Adams family, playing dress up or seeing those old fifties pics of people on the beach in old bathing suites.  She has a style and i like it.  Her work is for sale on etsy.

Photobooth

We stumbled across our next DIY project /challenge : Making your own Photobooth. You'll find the steps here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Photobooth/?ALLSTEPS

Fqyj3jjzz0ep27wojvmedium

I have recruited my Evandro, to do this, to make one with me so hopefully in a few months we'll have one made and then we'll automatically upload the photo strips onto flickr.  Drop us a line, tell us if you've been able to make it or any easy suggestions.  We'll also keep you posted on our progress.

Theres something fascinating about photography, in almost any form. I get a bit mesmerized with not only the image but the machine, the gadget. I have probably more that 5 cameras each with a different function, from video, to digital, to lomography, to polaroid and 35mm, yet I'm always on the look out for a new camera, like this (below) Imperial mark camera that seems to be more beautiful than functionally unique.

Camera

But I still want it! And a Ultronic Panoramic (see pics on flickr) too!

So I want a photobooth and in all seriousness a collection of cameras that work, and thats beautiful.

Heres a copy of an old posting I made on my prior blog about getting a new cam.  My obsession has been in existence for a while:

All I want for Christmas  (If only X-mas was in March)

All I want for Christmas is a lot of stuff but my list begins as it always does with a camera.
How many cameras do you have Lesa? Eight but I want 2 more, besides the eight cameras I do have are either old, don't work or have specific purposes, e.g my Polaroid and video camera.

The camera I want  although its quite expensive and I'm sure I wont get it for now is the
Canon EOS-1D Mark III.  Its was  announced in Feb of this year , its not in the stores yet and I'm almost certain that it will cost more than$5000. I'm not a professional photographer so theres no way I'm going to buy a camera that expensive. The second camera on my list is not a digital camera at all but its so much fun! How do I know? Its a lomo and all Lomos are fun. I would like to have specifically the LOMO LC-A +.   Price starts at $250 for the standard package up to $650 for the elite.  I want the elite!

"Dear Santa so far i have been a really good girl this year can i get a lomo for x-mas? I want one damn it!"

I have been a member of lomography international for over a year, taking pics with my little pathetic fisheye camera, yet I have always had my eyes on buying a bigger better lomo cam and Im sure this will be the one!
Look at these pics (taken from the site), photoshop didn't touch these babies.   Its purely the trick of the
LC-A +

Featured Artist: Beata Boucht

Exciting, exciting News! Beata Boucht’s Flora Till Lisa (Flora for Lisa) prints have been signed, sealed, and delivered.  They are here in the USA exclusively at Urbindimo!

Beata Boucht is a young, down-to-earth, Swedish illustrator whose studied art all her life. “It really has become my life” she told us, “I work all the time. But I wouldn’t change it for the world”.

Bbeata

Beata’s work is strikingly unique. Her “sketch like” illustrations, where the black lines and shades of her pencil creates an immediate contrast with that of the stark white page she draws upon, is eye catching. For her pieces that aren’t solely black and white, Beata never forgets to add color where emphasis is necessary. And what is she emphasizing? Usually a subject matter that is not stereotypical, thus making her images unconventional. “I want my illustrations to pop out. I want them to be attractive, pleasurable to look at, and tempting when you first see them. I try to highlight esthetics that usually can be low valued. Often I then try to conceal messages and standpoints in the images, so what you see at first isn't always what you get at the end. If I can catch someone's attention perhaps I can get them to listen to what I have to say.”   The result of all these distinctive elements and ideas coming together creates her style; a unique collage like style, that is complex and multifaceted with several layers and dimensions.  Nothing in her work can be taken for granted, every thing has been thought out. “I want people to take some time to look at my illustrations, then you may discover the hidden messages. Even I can sometimes discover something that I had forgotten that I had put there. I like to surprise people, as well as myself.”

Beatflora1

Her Flora Till Lisa pieces, promises to surprise, and it does.  They are a block of Eleven illustrations, with a story and we’ve asked Beata to share this story with us.

So here’s the inspiration behind Flora Till Lisa (Flora for Lisa):

“The famous Swedish botanist Carl von Linné (the man with the mission to categorize the world of plants) gave the twenty-fourth and last class in his sexual system, the name Cryptogamia, which means secret wedding. Here he put all the plans without flowers and seeds that did not fit into his scheme, those that he did not understand. My work is about those plants which were left over and could never be classified in his system.
Linné`s daughter Elisabeth Christina Linné (1743-1782) had no opportunity for an education despite being highly skilled in botany and science. I have made an illustrated volume of prints and a staging of the story, a book of flora dedicated to Lisa about outsiders, protected and rare, about a spiritual nature more difficult to classify. It is an homage to all those with similar fates.
Taking my point of departure in the 18th century, the golden age of the collector, I explore the need to categorize the world around us, the drive to order, and the problems that arise with things that exist outside the system. It is a settling of accounts with our fear of things that are different and with our weakness for standardized templates.”

Beatflora2

Each block of 10 is signed but if you prefer to buy single (unsigned) prints from the collection we have made this possible.  So let’s welcome Beata and get some Flora Till Lisa in our homes.

Apresentando a Artista : Beata Boucht

Revista Colectiva!

Logo_revistacolectiva

Oh we stumbled onto to this Latin magazine Revista Colectiva!(Collective Magazine!) and fell in love.    I don't know how to speak Spanish but i do speak art, and i love the art and artist they publish and promote!  They have a similar vision that we at Urbindimo have about uniting culture and people through good design.   They describe themselves as a "Collective of artists of the world presenting new trends in art, design and culture".   They choose alot of overlooked latin artist, and up and comers from across the globe.  And we love that!  Good art and design, wherever its from, needs to have the spotlight whenever possible!

We are in the works of getting there products. Hopefully theirs Mags and other items will be in our store very soon.  We love their special traditional games edition, it brings me back to my childhood and reminds me that I need to put a little more fun in my life! Sometimes we forget we need that!

Revista Colectiva!
Oh!
